STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION 12-SERIES

If you are looking for a change in posture, body use, awareness, and overall somatic experience, Structural Integration (SI) is for you. SI is a finite series of bodywork sessions designed to reorganize your soft tissue system thereby optimizing its function and ease of movement. Anatomically specific and strategic in it's approach, SI aims to unwind inefficient patterns/habits to promote long-lasting change. The series will incorporate work on scars and the neurovascular (nerve/artery) system, as needed.

What to expect:

* Twelve sessions scheduled every 1-2 weeks

* Client actively participates throughout session (standing, walking, moving, breathing)

* Client communicates level of sensation to ensure comfort

* Work performed with client on a massage table, sitting on a bench, or standing

* Slow, deep, lengthening and opening of the body's fascial network

* Movement re-education to create new patterns and awareness

What to wear: The client wears underwear (or two-piece bathing suit; traditional bra is preferred over an athletic bra) during each SI session. No perfumes, creams, oils, or lotions.

SCARWORK

Scar tissue can have a deep hold within your body, potentially limiting range of motion, or blocking nerve sensation so that you can't feel an area on/around your scar, or sometimes that area just feels 'different.' Integrating scar tissue back into the body can provide freedom, and sometimes it's freedom you didn't even know you were missing. Most scars will respond to this work, regardless of the age of the scar.

Sharon Wheeler describes scar tissue as very dense fascia with unique properties. Scar tissue work uses a casual, light touch - a little reminiscent of working with bread dough. The work is rarely painful - even for very new scars, and the amount of change in one intervention is extensive. The cosmetic effect is delightful and the functional changes can be profound. Natural and surgical scars of any age respond immediately followed by a short period of rapid healing and continued improvement. Read more about Sharon and ScarWork at sharon wheeler.com.

Sharon Wheeler's ScarWork can be incorporated into the Structural Integration 12-series or therapeutic bodywork sessions and can also be a stand-alone intervention.

What to wear: It is ideal for the client to wear flexible clothing that allows uncovering of the scar and surrounding area. In some cases it may be useful for the client to undress to underwear (or two-piece bathing suit; traditional bra is preferred over an athletic bra). No perfumes, creams, oils, or lotions.

THERAPEUTIC BODYWORK SESSION

Therapeutic bodywork sessions are useful for general musculoskeletal tension, aches and pains, limited range of motion, stress management, as well as for tune-ups after a Structural Integration series. The sessions may include a blend of structural integration techniques, work on scars, neurovascular (nerve/artery) work, therapeutic massage, and yoga therapy techniques.

What to wear: It is ideal for the client to wear flexible clothing that allows comfortable movement up and down from the floor. In some cases it may be useful for the client to undress to underwear (or two-piece bathing suit; traditional bra is preferred over an athletic bra). No perfumes, creams, oils, or lotions.

NEUROVASCULAR (NERVE AND ARTERY)

Work on the neurovascular system can free-up restricted nerves and arteries (not able to slide and glide between the layers of tissues) that may be causing limited range of motion, tightness, and pain. This subtle work requires a relatively light touch and can have some profound impacts body-wide. Neurovascular work can be incorporated into the Structural Integration 12-series as well as therapeutic bodywork sessions, as needed.
